Dr. Benjamin Colvard specializes in advanced vascular and endovascular surgery, offering expert care for artery and vein diseases, complex vascular conditions, and dialysis access management.
Dr. Benjamin Colvard is a fellowship-trained, board-certified vascular surgeon whose career spans clinical practice, academic medicine, and surgical innovation. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin and his Doctor of Medicine from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
He completed his vascular surgery residency at Stanford University, training across the full spectrum of open and endovascular techniques, and served as a Surgical Innovation Fellow at the Institut Hospitalo-Universitaire (IHU) in Strasbourg, France, one of the world’s leading centers for minimally invasive and image-guided surgery.
Before joining Sarasota Vascular Specialists as an Associate Partner, Dr. Colvard served as an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Vascular Surgery at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and held clinical leadership roles within the University Hospitals system in Ohio. He is board-certified in vascular surgery and licensed to practice in Florida.

Dr. Colvard specializes in the full spectrum of vascular conditions, including thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysm repair (including advanced fenestrated and physician-modified endografts), carotid artery disease, peripheral arterial disease and critical limb ischemia, dialysis access creation and management, and venous disease. He has particular expertise in complex endovascular and minimally invasive techniques, including robotic aortic surgery and intravascular ultrasound (IVUS)-guided intervention.
Qualifications
Dr. Colvard completed his vascular surgery residency at Stanford University and advanced fellowship training in surgical innovation in Strasbourg, France. He is a board-certified vascular surgeon and an active member of the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) and the Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Society (VESS), and has served on the SVS International Relations and Young Surgeons Committees. He has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals such as the Journal of Vascular Surgery and Annals of Vascular Surgery, along with multiple surgical textbook chapters.

His research on surgical innovation earned competitive funding at IHU Strasbourg, and he has been recognized with the Michael E. DeBakey Outstanding Student in Surgery Award and a University Hospitals Faculty Teaching Award.
